The Qualicum International Student Program (QISP) welcomes students from Grade 6 to 12 (students 10 to 18 years of age), to study in any one of our Secondary and Elementary schools. Whether you choose to study here in Canada for a few months, a full year or for several years leading to high school graduation and university studies, our comprehensive and flexible program has been developed to meet your interests and academic requirements. We have Full Year academic programs, as well as Short-Term, and Summer programs. Our programs options are outlined below, and if you have any questions please contact the QISP office and we will be happy to assist you.

Full Year Program

While you are enrolled in the Full Year program in the Qualicum International Student Program you will have access to a full complement of academic and elective courses, English language training, post-secondary preparation, counseling and individual tutoring as necessary, to help you successfully complete your studies and graduate from high school in Canada if that is your goal. After high school graduation you may wish to continue your studies and apply to post-secondary schooling in Canada, the USA or in your home country.

English Proficiency

Acceptance into the Qualicum International Student Program is not dependent upon the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Languages) score. Students will be placed in an appropriate level of ESL training enabling students to develop and experience English with confidence.

Qualicum International Student Programs offer a variety of opportunities for overseas students to study English and enjoy the wonderful west coast lifestyle and surroundings here on Vancouver Island during shorter activity-filled stays. Beginner to advanced students may choose from two and three-week programs and trip organizers may request custom programs, all of which are enriched through a variety of outings and recreational activities. In addition, both Credit and Prep programs are offered to students who are already studying in Canada or who wish to begin studying in Canada. During this activity-filled summer program, your immersion into English language study and Canadian culture will be enriched through special field trips to “must-see” tourist destinations as well as a variety of fun recreation and cultural activities and the opportunity to live with a Canadian host family.

All classes will be themed to highlight Canadian history, culture and traditions, geography and environment. Students will participate in a variety of reading, writing and creative activities in a challenging and exciting atmosphere.

Local Canadian high school student assistants will join the group making up a 1:5, Canadian to International student ratio. Student assistants will help with learning in the classroom, as well as join in on the afternoon activities.

Students attending this program are seeking to improve their English language skills and need assistance in preparing for the academic courses they will enroll in during the following school year.

Students will be given every opportunity to practice their English skills within an integrated, comprehensive program of classroom study and workshops that will be specifically designed to meet the needs and interests of the learners.

This program will be of interest to students returning to our school district, as well as those arriving for the first time. Learn More.

ESL-classroom1This program is for students 14 to 18 years seeking to improve their English language skills and needing assistance in preparing for the academic courses they will take during the following school year. Students will be given every opportunity to practice their English skills within a comprehensive, integrated program of classroom study and workshops that will be specifically designed to meet the needs and interests of the learners.

Students will live with a Canadian host family in the Qualicum School District area and attend daily English language classes at the campus. The Program is for all levels – beginners to advanced – with an emphasis on speaking, listening and writing. Learn More.
